Safe hands: Jonti Chisholm's excellent display in goal kept the Blues secure on a tighter night than six–two suggests.

The scoreline says comfortable. For forty minutes it was anything but. The Blues were ahead for most of Friday's 8pm game at Bannisters, but the Yellows stayed in touch until a burst of three goals in eleven minutes settled it. Blue Bibs 6, Yellow Bibs 2.

Porfirio Delgado, an hour after his hat-trick in the 7pm game, opened the scoring on six minutes with an excellent finish from Scott Gilzean's pass. The Yellows hit back on 11: some lovely team play through the middle opened the way for Mustafa Atteyeh, who took Av Kanda's pass and finished with ease.

Tarjan finds space

Giulio Mascolo restored the lead on 18 from JC Maranan's pass. On 26 Delgado turned provider, finding Arash Tarjan unmarked in the centre of the box for a simple finish. 3–1.

Two in a minute

The 40th minute brought the moment of the match and its turning point. Shaquille James, fed by Nikolas Charalambous, sold the goalkeeper a lovely dummy and sat him down to make it 3–2. The Blues answered inside the same minute, Maranan scoring from Arash Tarjan's pass to restore the two-goal cushion.

The late surge

From there the Blues pulled away. Arash Tarjan grabbed his second on 48, set up by Jake Wilson, and Makan Tarjan, one of three Tarjans in blue, made it six on 51 from Ross Collins' pass. Between them the Tarjans scored half of the Blues' goals.

The man of the match was Jonti Chisholm. His excellent performance in goal kept the Blues secure through the tight spells and gave the forwards the platform to run away with it late on.
